Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Group has been observing the Government’s rules on Social Distancing and other measures. We are cautiously starting to organise a limited number of events which adhere to rules at the time. Please do contact the Group directly for more information of those events - as many are being organised at short notice by our members
Pre-covid we were organising around 80 events each year for our members to enjoy. The following is a sample of the events that we have managed to put on recently and over the next few months with more being added as restrictions officially ease. Contact us for a more details
Saturday 3rd - Half-day walk
8 mile afternoon walk in Pangbourne area - following a circular route through Upper Basildon, Lower Basildon, and the Thames Path back to Pangbourne.
Monday 5th - "Bali"
Online presentation via Online meeting by one of our members on a trip to Bali for sightseeing and diving. Online meeting starts at 7:30 pm
Sunday 18th - Visit to Open Garden
Visit to an Open Garden in the historic village of Farnborough, near Wantage
Sunday 25th - Bluebell Walk
Walk to find bluebells in the Chilterns
Monday 3rd - "Scottish Island-hopping"
Online talk by one of our members on her experiences of island-hopping in Scotland. Online meeting starts at 7:30 pm
Satrday 8th - Afternoon walk
Along the Thames Path from Caversham Bridge to Sonning, and back with a visit to a tea-shop en-route
Wednesday 12th - Evening cycle ride
Evening bike ride to Black Horse in Checkendon Meet at 8pm
Saturday 15th - "Open Garden visit"
Short afternoon walk to two more open gardens and back again - approx 4 miles
Wednesday 19th - Museum visit
Visit to Reading Museum in the afternoon followed by a cafe or pub visit. Numbers still limited on indoor meet-ups due to Covid restrictions so please contact the event organiser.
Tuesday 25th - Friday 24th Hostel trip to Dorset
3 nights staying a Swanage YHA on the Dorset coast. Opportunities for wonderful coastal walking, cycling, sightseeing to places such as Corfe Castle or RSPB Arne reserve. Numbers limited due to Covid restrictions so contact the event organiser.
Monday 7th - "Annual Review"
Review of the past year's events organised by our group (we did managed to put on some events despite Covid restrictions!). Online meeting starts at 7:30 pm
Tuesday 8th - Museum Visit
Late morning visit to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford to see a Pre-Raphaelite exhibition (tickets required), followed by museum café, general look round the museum and maybe a walk round Oxford and further refreshments. Numbers still limited on indoor meet-ups due to Covid restrictions so please contact the event organiser first.
Sunday 20 - Thursday 24 Hostel trip to Snowdonia
Hostelling trip to the heart of Snowdonia (Eyri) starting at a YHA hotel within reach of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa). Spectacular mountain walking, cycling, sightseeing or just relaxing in this wonderful National Park.
