Reading Outdoor Group

Reading Outdoor Group is a club for members living in Berkshire, South Oxfordshire and North Hampshire.

We have around 70 members - mostly based in and near Reading. The club was first established in 1979 by a group of like minded outdoor enthusiasts interested in walking and cycling - later changing our name to 'Reading Outdoor Group' or just 'ROG' as it is affectionately known.

The group is affiliated to the Youth Hostel Association of England and Wales (YHA) and is recognised as an official Local YHA group. However, youth-hostelling only forms a small part of our varied programme.

Our programme of events is organised by our own members - and is a varied mix of outdoor and indoor social activities - from rambles, cycle rides, weekends away, camping through to visits to theatres and local restaurants. We also have a monthly Social get-together, usually on evening of the first Monday of the month, in Reading town centre where we often had a talk / slideshow by one of our members or external speakers. The Social is also a chance to meet other members and in particular organisers of forthcoming events .

We publish our programme four times a year covering four months at a time with an overlap of one month. A sample of just some of the events from the current programme is available from the 'What's On' page on this website. Please contact us if you would like a full copy of the programme or would like to come along to a specific event.

Our members are of all ages, with an average age range of 50 to 65. We have singles and couples

Please come and sample a couple of our events before joining
